Nicaragua is currently OPEN to adoptions by US citizens. 

Nicaraguan law allows only for the adoption of children by Nicaraguan citizens or permanent residents.  Prospective adoptive parents must have a permanent residence in the country and be willing to remain in Nicaragua until the child legally becomes an adult.

Nicaraguan law allows only for the adoption of children by Nicaraguan citizens or permanent residents.  Prospective adoptive parents must have a permanent residence in the country and be willing to remain in Nicaragua until the child legally becomes an adult. In the cases of U.S. citizens with an approved I-600 or I-600A, the residency requirement is typically waived.
